Letter From The Chairman

37 Years And Still Strong.....Our Vision For The Future

The South Atlantic Cardiovascular Society (SACS) 2009 Annual Meeting was a huge success with the highest conference attendance to date of cardiac healthcare professionals discussing the latest issues facing our industry and patient care.  Our speaker base was broadened to include 10 first-time attendees who plan to become more involved in the organization. Joined by our families and guests, we all enjoyed a memorable meeting of social networking and family leisure activities.  A sincere "Thank You" to Dr. Vinod Thourani for his leadership, and to the entire 2009 Steering Committee, with Gail Shreckengaust's assistance, for organizing an excellent program

The 37th SACS Annual Meeting scheduled for August 5-8, 2010 is shaping up to be three days of stimulating discussions complemented by relaxing networking and social events.  From the nuances of women and cardiovascular disease to the much publicly-debated topic of health care reform that has dominated news headlines, the educational program will provide presentations on a variety of current topics.   Based on your input, we have extended some sessions to allow for more of the popular pro/con debate and open-question format that sets the SACS meeting apart from all others.  We are excited to have the beautiful Kingston Plantation hosting the 2010 SACS Annual Meeting.  Their exceptional facilities and recreational offerings will make this an enjoyable experience for everyone.

As we look to the future, the Steering Committee has been engaged in considerable discussion on the organization's success and history over the past 37 years, our relevance today, and what role SACS should serve in the years to come as the health care environment changes.  SACS will continue to stay abreast of current cardiology and cardiac surgical issues as the face of these specialties develop and change.  And to that end, we will encourage the participation of young cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and individuals leading innovation and new technologies in our industry. But most importantly, SACS will remain a society that is open to all cardiac-care professionals in the South Atlantic states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

On behalf of the Steering Committee, I look forward to seeing you in August 2010 and I challenge you to recruit a colleague to join you at the meeting.

Regards,
Kevin Accola, M.D.
Chairman, SACS 2010 Steering Committee
