Biography
Kenan Yount, MD, joined the UVA faculty as an instructor in the Division of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery in 2018. His clinical interests are diverse and encompass all aspects of cardiac surgery, including: aortic and mitral valve disease (open and noninvasive interventions), thoracic aortic disease (including aneurysms and dissection), coronary artery bypass graft surgery, atrial fibrillation surgery, heart failure and heart transplantation. He sees patients at UVA Heart and Vascular Center and UVA Advanced Cardiac Valve Center.
Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Dr. Yount graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 2006. He has strong roots in Charlottesville, however, having attended UVA for both medical school and business school to obtain a combined MD/MBA degree through the Sydney F. Small Memorial Fellowship merit scholarship program. He continued his residency and fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at UVA and pursued additional subspecialty training at UVA and the University of Pennsylvania in transcatheter and minimally invasive heart valve disease.
Dr. Yount is a member of major cardiac surgical societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, which recognized his research in healthcare delivery with the President’s Award for best research in the field of cardiothoracic surgery in 2014. He is also a member of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the South Atlantic Cardiovascular Society.
Dr. Yount’s primary research interests include heart valve disease, enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery, cardiac surgical outcomes, health policy and health economics.
In his free time, Dr. Yount enjoys golf, skiing, fitness and spending time with his wife, Sarah. The couple have a daughter on the way.
